Local Attractions & Activities
Hunting
In the fall the upland hunting here is great, there are thousands of acres that are owned and made accessible by the larger paper companies. Sportsmen enjoy the vast alder swamps and hill country that makes the region’s woodcock and grouse seasons so fantastic. There are record size deer on the ridges and hillsides; you are smack in the middle of the best moose country in the state. The bear population is high if you choose to hunt the bruins.
Snowmobiling
In the Winter we have one of the most extensive trail systems in the East. The Pittsburg Snowmobile Club pittsburgridgerunners.org has several groomers to cover the trail system that interconnects with Maine, Vermont, and Canada. You can reach the trails from your cabin and once to them, have a great trip through the woods and mountains ahead of you. Gas is readily available.
Fishing
With Spring and ice-out the area attracts fishermen to some of the most unspoiled, seldom visited, cleanest and most beautiful high-country ponds and beaver flowages in the Northeast. Back Lake is a 359-acre cold spring-fed lake that holds brook trout, brown trout and an abundance of rainbow trout. The lodge has boats, available for rental or bring your own boat, there is a boat ramp a short distance from the lodge.
ATV Riding in the North Country
Miles of ATV riding fun can be found in Pittsburg. The Great North Woods Riders ATV Club greatnorthwoodsatv.org maintains a trail system on 8,000 acres of privately owned land. There are approximately 60 miles of trails ranging from graveled roads to tight wooded trails with some muddy areas.
Hiking, Swimming, and Bicycling are some other area activities that are enjoyed by all.
